The journey
Stage 3

Identify the Audience

Specificity is a strategy.

What this stage is

Specificity is a strategy. A vague audience produces a vague product. A specific audience pulls the work into focus.

Why it matters

When you can name the person you serve, every product, copy, and pricing decision gets easier.

Common mistakes

  • ·Saying 'everyone'.
  • ·Choosing an audience by demographic only, not by urgency.

Reflection questions

  • Who specifically has this problem this week?
  • Why is it urgent for them right now?
  • Do they have the means and authority to act?

Exercises

  • Name one person who has the problem this week.
  • Describe them in three sentences — situation, urgency, current workaround.

Ready-to-move checklist

  • I can name the audience.
  • I know why this problem is urgent for them.
  • I know whether they have means to act.
