The journey
Stage 3
Identify the Audience
Specificity is a strategy.
What this stage is
Specificity is a strategy. A vague audience produces a vague product. A specific audience pulls the work into focus.
Why it matters
When you can name the person you serve, every product, copy, and pricing decision gets easier.
Common mistakes
- ·Saying 'everyone'.
- ·Choosing an audience by demographic only, not by urgency.
Reflection questions
- ◆Who specifically has this problem this week?
- ◆Why is it urgent for them right now?
- ◆Do they have the means and authority to act?
Exercises
- ◆Name one person who has the problem this week.
- ◆Describe them in three sentences — situation, urgency, current workaround.
Ready-to-move checklist
- I can name the audience.
- I know why this problem is urgent for them.
- I know whether they have means to act.
